The thin gauge ( 0.5mm to 0.7mm thickness ) copper tubing is generally used as refrigeration tube as it is economical and strong. The thicker gauge ( 0.9mm to 1.5mm thickness ) copper tubing is used in underground works and works with heavy duty requirements including hot and cold water services, gas services, sanitary plumbing, heating, offshore marine applications and general engineering where added toughness and durability is important. In fire sprinkler system, copper tubing is used particularly for the reason that it will not burn or support combustion or decompose to toxic gases and it will not carry fire through walls, ceilings or floors.
